So What Happens Next in My Book?

So I ended up taking around 4-days off writing my book. Why?

One evening after all of my family went to bed I went and made myself a drink. I then walked down the stairs into my basement writing room, put on the side lamp so my writing room remains pretty dark. I then got myself comfortable.

Next, I did my usual pre-writing ritual. Once that was done I then switched on my Mac. On Desktop 2, my latest book is always open. To get back into the flow I read the section I last wrote. There are always one or two small edits. I never spend more than minutes on them. I did the edits and then what was next?

I am working on character development.

It’s strange because I thought the character I opened the book with would be the main character. Now 25,000 words in one of my other characters is coming more and more to the lead. He’s more detailed and much different to what I Imagined. Yet he’s a strong character, so I will allow him to develop.

I won’t lie, this has thrown me a little, but it’s also teaching me I have to let go a little and allow the book to take a life of its own.

The bigger problem I had was this stopped me from writing today. This is also a good lesson. It gave me time to develop the character in my head before I over-commit him to paper.
