Diary Of A Writer’s Wife
Over herbal tea and dark chocolate I caught up with an old friend I hadn’t seen in years. He remembered me in finance and struggled to imagine me now as a publisher, a writer, and a few other titles I mentioned.
The truth is, if anything was accidental, it was finance. That career lasted only five years out of thirty, yet it’s the identity people expect me to hold on to.
Life is always moving, and with it our identity shifts and reshapes. Later for many, I was known as a writer’s wife an identity I too carried myself.
But what happens when life shifts? When it’s time to evolve? How do we reshape our old identity and transition into a new one?
Some change is deliberate, others unexpected. The change that arrived in my life was a shock, yet through it my inner voice grew stronger. It told me the time had come to shed the old person, I almost needed to become a different version of me. Maybe it was part of the grieving process, maybe a way to find distraction but I felt myself becoming someone else. I wanted to exaggerate everything about me, from the clothes and jewellery I wore to the way I wrote and spoke. And still, it felt organic.
So where am I today?
After journaling daily for twelve months, I feel like a new person. What was inside me began to reveal itself. That new shift shed the old identity and made space for the new one.
The question is who am I?
As part of this project, I have begun refining Diary of a Writer’s Wife notes, bringing more structure and clarity to the manuscript.
Although the writing began as a way to channel my grief, I believe it has grown into something more. It’s about navigating major life changes not just loss, but any shift in identity or reinvention.
The project Diary of A Writer’s Wife is supported by Arts Council England using public funding, and it is part of an expansive vision that brings togethor publishing, original podcast production and theatrical productions. I look forward to sharing the journey with you. If you’d like to follow the progress, please stay subscribed and share it with anyone who might find it helpful.
