Should I Write A Legacy Book

Should You Write a Legacy Book?

Well, probably the truth is - it depends on many things.

I wrote on. This is my book named Escape from Zoomanity.

The reason I wrote that book was this. I wanted my family and others to know what had happened to me over a few years.

At the age of 45 years, I wondered what the hell was going on. After a life of stability, I faced divorce, homelessness, loss of faith and a loss of everything. The most destructive period of life I ever faced ā€¦ and survived.

I vanished into a mountain in California all alone and put this book together. It was the only way I felt I could make sense of what felt like utter helplessness but ultimately total triumph over my embedded life. Not only did I discover how to be happy alone, how to have a happy life, how to be happy again. But I also discovered the answers to why am I sad and how can I finally fix this.

Once I had pulled myself together again I went away to California. Just me and a tiny Samsung notebook.

After much thought, I decided to try and explain everything. I began the book way back in my early life experiences and tied everything into my modern-day life. Each period I broke down and explained in full.

So for me, it was for my family although the buying public loved it and my family have yet to read it 12 years on.

Writing A Legacy Book

Writing a legacy book can be a meaningful and fulfilling endeavour for several reasons. Here are some reasons worth considering:

  • Preservation of Family History: A legacy book allows you to document and preserve your family's history, stories, and traditions. It can serve as a valuable resource for future generations to understand their roots and heritage.

  • Passing on Wisdom: Your experiences, insights, and life lessons can be shared through a legacy book. This allows you to pass on your knowledge and wisdom to your children, grandchildren, and others who may benefit from your experiences.

  • Connection Across Generations: A legacy book creates a tangible link between generations. It helps bridge the gap between the past, present, and future, fostering a sense of continuity and connection within your family.

  • Celebrating Achievements: It provides an opportunity to celebrate and highlight your achievements, milestones, and the challenges you've overcome. This can be an inspiring and motivational resource for your family members.

  • Legacy of Values: You can use the book to articulate your values, beliefs, and principles. This can be a powerful way to communicate the importance of certain values and ensure they are carried on by future generations.

  • Personal Reflection: Writing a legacy book can be a reflective process that allows you to gain insights into your own life. It gives you the chance to take stock of your experiences, decisions, and personal growth.

  • Family Bonding: Involving family members in the process of creating a legacy book can strengthen family bonds. Collaborative efforts in gathering stories, memories, and photographs can be a shared and positive experience.

  • Meaningful Gift: A legacy book can be a thoughtful and lasting gift for your loved ones. It's a unique way to express your love, gratitude, and the significance of your relationships.

  • Coping with Grief: For some, the process of writing a legacy book can be therapeutic, especially when dealing with grief or facing the end of life. It provides an opportunity to reflect on one's life and leave a lasting legacy.

  • Inspiring Others: Your life story, accomplishments, and challenges may serve as an inspiration to others, not only within your family but potentially beyond. It can motivate others to persevere and pursue their goals.

Remember that the decision to write a legacy book is a personal one, and the reasons for doing so will vary from person to person. If you find the idea appealing, it could be a rewarding and meaningful project that contributes to your family's history and the broader narrative of your life.
