Charlie Chaplin - Writing A Biography or A Memoir

Do you want to write a biography or a memoir?

In our mountain village in Georgia, where me and my brother used to spend 3 months chasing the wind, we have a big 2-story family home, on the second floor, there used to be a large 'formal' living room, and on the right-hand side of the wall, just next to the large window stood (still does) a large bookcase. During hot summer days, when chasing the wind was not an option I used to pick up books and go through them, like some sort of food.

One particular summer, I must have been around 14 years old, I picked up a thick, dusty book with some black and white photographic inserts in the middle. It was Charles Chaplin’s biography. I loved reading it. There were so many things I learned about the man, from his troubled mother in England to his political attitude during WW2 and of course all the love affairs in between. Years later, I still reference and talk about this book. It was written and then translated into Georgian wonderfully.

Writing a biography or your memoir can become a legacy that can live forever, but it really needs to be put together in such a way that it’s a compelling read, as well as informative, and can really deliver the right message to the reader.
